MIND THE GAP

Social realism is the cornerstone of British cinema tradition – it reflects diversity while championing the subjectivity and identity of individuals. Films from this genre provide sharp commentary on the past and present political and social circumstances faced by people living in the British Isles. The section name refers to the traditional message introduced in 1969 on the London Underground while also drawing attention to the "gap" that defines the existing divisions in British everyday life.
