ON FALLING to open BFF
ON FALLING - Laura Carreira's debut film awarded at the San Sebastian Film Festival for Best Director and at the London Film Festival for Best Debut - will open the BRITISH FILM FESTIVAL on 13.11!
World premiere and Best Director award at the San Sebastian Film Festival in September. Winning the BFI London Film Festival debut competition in October, just yesterday. Next stop is Poznań - the Polish premiere of Laura Carreira's ON FALLING will take place at Kino Muza in Poznań as part of the grand opening of the first edition of BRITISH FILM FESTIVAL!
Set in Scotland, the story follows the lives of a Portuguese immigrant and warehouse worker Aurora. An inhuman algorithm-based economy, wage slavery and social isolation exacerbate her emotional breakdown. The film is already being compared to Ken Loach's greatest achievements, and hopes are rising for the debutant director!
Laura Carreira - meet the director
Laura Carreira is a Portuguese filmmaker based in Edinburgh, Scotland since studyingfilm at the ECA (Edinburgh College of Art). Her first short film RED HILL won the New Visions Award at the 73rd EdinburghInternational Film Festival and was nominated for the Best Short Film award at the 2019 BAFTA Scotland Awards. Her shortfilm THE SHIFT premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in 2020, won the New Talent Award at IndieLisboa andwas nominated for the European Film Awards and the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards. In 2022, Laura was named oneof the Rising Stars Scotland by Screen International.
ON FALLING is her debut feature film. Her second feature film is indevelopment with Sixteen Films and Film4.
The opening screening will take place on 13.11 at 19:30.
