BLOODY HELL!

Thanks to BLOODY HELL!, you will get to know this side of British filmmaking that is only whispered about in certain circles...

When we think of British cinema, the first thing that comes to mind is the staid and serious cinema - committed social dramas, costume films or intricate crime stories populated by impeccably dressed detectives and equally stylish murderers. If you dig a little deeper, however, amongst the movies from the Isles, you will find plenty of madness, fun and productions that defy bourgeois tastes.

The British Film Festival is teaming up with the Octopus Film Festival from Gdańsk to jointly draw back the curtains of convention and offer audiences titles that would leave true ladies and gentlemen scandalised after screenings. Over four festival evenings as part of the BLOODY HELL! section, we will showcase spirited films, eagerly flirting with genre and cheekily nodding to the tradition of exploitation cinema.

BLOODY HELL! will be a journey through four decades of British cinema cursed by defenders of morality. We will kick it off in the sixties at the legendary Hammer studio, then meet zombie bikers, watch forgotten gems of British VHS cinema, and reach the end in Richard Stanley's ravaged post-apocalyptic world.
